Following the success of its inaugural conference in 2024, the ICON-S Australia & New Zealand Chapter will be hosting its next conference at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington from 26-28 August 2026. The theme of the conference is ‘HE MAHI RARANGA: Infusion and Diffusion of Australasian Public Law’. The conference will feature a series of keynote panels, as well as parallel sessions in which participants are invited to present papers either in pre-organised panels or panels assembled by the organisers.
There are planned keynote panels on: ‘The Law that was Always There’: Weaving First Nations and Pasifika Knowledges within the Law Curriculum; The Automated State; New Directions in Constitutionalism; and a Judicial Dialogue on the Judiciary in an Age of Distrust.
The Call for Papers for the parallel sessions is now open, and closes at 5pm AEST on Thursday 16 April 2026. Proposals for individual papers can be submitted here, and proposals for fully formed panels can be submitted here. Papers relating to the conference theme – “HE MAHI RARANGA: Infusion and Diffusion of Australasian Public Law” – are particularly encouraged, but papers on other public law topics are also very welcome.
Registrations for speakers and attendees will open at a later date. There will be a modest registration fee. Participants will be provided with lunch and free attendance at conference drinks, and there will be a limited number of travel grants available to scholars without access to other sources of funding. This funding will be awarded in order of need, with priority given to early career researchers.
